Myrto Konstantinidou is a Chemical Engineer with a double degree from National Technical University of Athens and Politecnico di Milano, a M.Sc. in Computational Engineering and a Ph.D. in Industrial Safety. She has more than 20 years’ experience in Quantified Risk Assessment of industrial installations and Accident analysis. Currently she holds the position of principal research scientist in the National Center for Scientific Research “DEMOKRITOS” in Greece and she is a member of the Systems Reliability and Industrial Safety Laboratory (SRISL). Her main focus of research has been on the causes of Industrial Accidents in the Oil and Gas sector as well as on the integration of Human Factors in the risk assessment, safety management and investigation of major accidents.
She has provided scientific support to the issuing and implementation of the European Directive 2013/30/EU on “Safety of offshore oil and gas prospection, exploration and production activities” and acted as Technical secretary of the EU Offshore Authorities Group. From 2018 onwards she is dealing with the transport of Dangerous Goods by developing relevant tools with advanced technologies for the recognition and safe passage of dangerous goods, the effective management of emergency situations and the education of drivers in relevant issues.
From September 2021 she is the General Secretary of the European Safety and Reliability Association (ESRA) and member of the Board. She has also served as member of the Scientific Committees of the ESREL and ICSRS Conferences for many years.
