Frederic Bouder is Professor in Risk Management at the University of Stavanger, Norway. He is a recognised expert in risk communication and policy analysis. His awareness of the role that new modes of governance and the media play in policy making is a central pillar of his research. He has integrated cognitive insights from decision science into making risk policy more science-informed.
Bouder has made tangible impacts on policy, in particular several of his recommendations have been endorsed and implemented by European and national regulators and policymakers. Among key endeavours he has explored risk-informed approaches to governance across Europe in various sectors including health and safety, pharmaceuticals and food. Frederic Bouder led comparative research on risk acceptance, regulatory transparency, benefit-risk models, antivirals, vaccines and the energy transition. In 2009 Frederic Bouder was appointed National Expert to the European Medicines Agency. In 2017 he completed a senior fellowship programme at the Institute for Advance Sustainability Studies (IASS). Finally, Bouder has been an active member of the Society for Risk Analysis (SRA) since 2004 and is a former president of SRA Europe.
