Due to capacity restrictions, early registration is recommended. Questions regarding the events can be directed to Kjartan Bjørnsen ([email protected]).
Risk science fundamentals: Strengthening the theoretical foundation on risk concepts and principles
Risk analysis professionals often face challenges in clearly articulating their field of expertise and the meaning of key concepts and principles. This workshop is aimed at early career professionals who want to strengthen their theoretical foundation and confidence as young risk analysis professionals. The workshop will draw on significant efforts by the scientific community over the past decades to clarify the foundations of risk analysis. Topics will include the fundamentals of the risk field and science, distinctions between different types of risk analysis knowledge, and the meaning and application of basic risk analysis concepts and principles. The format will be interactive, featuring a combination of short talks, videos, and group discussions to facilitate understanding.

Risk communication: legacy and new frontiers
In the past 50 years or so, the risk communication field has matured into a sophisticated area of science, contributing a considerable amount of theoretical as well as applied insights. This movement is inspiring young risk scholars who are formulating new research questions to further advance the field. Risk communication is also of crucial importance to young professionals who are struggling with real-life situations. The objective of the workshop is to build on this strong legacy to articulate a coherent approach to current problems. The workshop will explore how “take home lessons” from Risk communication science can be translated into practice. For instance, the workshop will consider positive avenues to improve evidence-based risk communication practice. It will also consider the positive and negative impacts of new technological developments (e.g. role of AI). The format of the workshop will be interactive, with a combination of short talks and discussions.
Facilitators: Professor Frederic E. Bouder and Associate Professor Lisbeth Fjæran (University of Stavanger)
